At Duke Health, the Patient Revenue Management Organization supports scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions across the health system.
The Medical Records Coder II is a certified coder responsible for reviewing and accurately coding complex medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions. The role ensures appropriate diagnosis and procedure sequencing, DRG/APC assignment, and optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
This position also involves abstracting data from medical records, coordinating and reviewing the work of designated employees, assisting with training and continuing education, and consulting with physicians and clinical staff to improve documentation and coding accuracy.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma
- Active/current certification in one of the following:
- RHIA
- RHIT
- CCS
- CPC
- HCS-D
Experience requirements
- RHIA: no experience required
- RHIT: no experience required
- CCS: 1 year of coding experience required
- CPC or HCS-D: 2 years of coding experience required
