In this role, you will code inpatient medical records for multiple facilities, including major trauma and NICU records. You will assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG codes, validate MCC/CCs, HACs, PSIs, and quality indicators, and ensure accurate POA indicator assignment.
You will work under HIM Coding leadership and support the organization’s billing, abstracting, licensure, statistical, and financial reporting needs.
Key responsibilities include reviewing work queues, prioritizing charts within established timelines, following up on on-hold accounts, requesting physician queries when documentation is unclear, collaborating with clinical documentation specialists, and maintaining compliance with Prisma Health coding and compliance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Certification program, associate degree, or coding certificate through AHIMA or another approved coding program
- At least 3 years of coding experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting
- Inpatient coding experience
- EPIC health information system experience preferred
Required Credentials
- RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CIC, or another approved coding credential
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
- Knowledge of electronic medical records and 3M or encoder systems
- Knowledge of MS-DRG prospective payment systems and severity systems
- Ability to work independently and make decisions
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time
- Ability to participate in on-site, remote, and/or external training workshops
- Ability to collaborate with CDI, PFS, and Quality teams
