Duke Health is seeking a certified Medical Records Coder II to support the Patient Revenue Management Organization. This role is part of a centralized revenue cycle team that supports scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and related functions across Duke Health.
This position is 100% remote, but remote workers must reside in one of the following states: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, or Texas.
The coder will review complex medical records, assign diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions, ensure accurate DRG/APC assignment, abstract data for reimbursement, and help support education, audits, and coding quality efforts.
Education
- High school diploma required
Certification
- Must hold one of the following active/current certifications:
- RHIA
- RHIT
- CCS
- CPC
- HCS-D
Experience
- RHIA: no experience required
- RHIT: no experience required
- CCS: 1 year of coding experience required
- CPC or HCS-D: 2 years of coding experience required
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions
- Anatomy and physiology
- Medical terminology
- Strong DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge
- Familiarity with coding software
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Data entry and CRT proficiency
