Atlantic Medical Management is hiring a professional medical coding specialist who is goal oriented, revenue driven, highly accurate, and motivated. This role focuses on collecting reimbursements by gathering, coding, and transmitting patient care information, resolving discrepancies, adjusting patient bills, working accounts receivable, and preparing reports. The position requires ProFee coding and billing experience and is remote, with candidates required to be located in North Carolina.
Essential functions
- Post medical charges into NextGen software in a timely manner to meet daily and monthly goals.
- Review and verify that documentation supports diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results.
- Identify diagnostic and procedural information and assign codes for reimbursement.
- Navigate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Work with providers to correct diagnosis or procedure codes so claims can be processed.
- Identify coding or billing problems from EOBs and correct errors promptly.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of all payers.
- Coordinate with clinics to ensure outstanding superbills are collected prior to month-end close.
- Update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Transfer open balances to the correct insurance.
- Work with patients and guarantors to secure payment.
- Resolve disputed claims by gathering, verifying, and providing additional information.
- Identify problem accounts and escalate as appropriate.
- Write appeals and include supporting documentation.
- Run reports and contact insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims.
- Meet department metrics and thresholds set by management.
- Assist with special projects and other job-related duties as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma.
- 2 years of professional coding/billing experience.
- AAPC certification preferred.
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and other commercial and private payers.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact in sensitive and/or complex situations with a variety of people.
- Excellent customer service and professionalism.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Strong organizational and efficiency skills.
- Self-motivated and able to meet objectives.
