Professional Coder II

Abstracts ICD-10 and CPT codes for diagnosis and procedures for professional services.

Reviews and analyzes medical records to verify and code diagnosis, evaluation and management services, minor procedures, and other codes required for completeness and accuracy.

Also codes and/or reviews principal diagnosis, co-morbidities, complications, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and applicable supplies, medications, and injectable drugs.

Maintains communication with management, practice managers, and providers to ensure timely notification of documentation issues.

Collaborates with revenue cycle team members and provider clinics.

Provides continuing education to clinical staff members and providers.

Assists billing staff with inquiries regarding coding, documentation, denials, and billing.

Supports the review and appeal process for denied professional services.

Maintains an accuracy score of 95% or higher for CPT and ICD-10 coding.

Works in a high-stress environment with competing deadlines and strong expectations for organization and teamwork.

Requirements & Qualifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS/CCS-P).

Previous coding experience required.

Coding experience in 3 or more specialties preferred.

Experience working in a physician office preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT required.

Strong communication and time management skills required.

Must demonstrate initiative, quality focus, and efficiency improvement.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Teams, required.

Must be able to maintain reliable high-speed internet for remote access work and comply with IT security policies.
