Accurately codes and abstracts inpatient, rehabilitation inpatient, outpatient surgery, swing bed, long-term care, ancillary services, and short-stay observation records according to official coding guidelines.
Responsibilities include assigning accurate DRG, PAI, and APC classifications, performing comprehensive chart review, capturing compliant documentation, and supporting occasional backup for diagnostic outpatient coding.
The role also includes discharge analysis, provider education, technical support for coding data retrieval, and maintaining coding quality and productivity benchmarks.
Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent in General Studies
Preferred
- 3+ years of hospital coding experience
- Associate degree in Health Information Management
- One of the following certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA
- Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice (CPC-A) - AAPC
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA
