UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is hiring a Coder II to join its Coding Department. This is a work-from-home position with a Monday through Friday schedule during business hours.
The role focuses on same-day surgery and observation coding, including diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, charging for injections, infusions, and hydrations, and reconciling NCCI edits.
Key responsibilities include reviewing coding for accuracy and completeness prior to billing submission, using standard coding guidelines and coding clinics, maintaining productivity and accuracy standards, abstracting medical and demographic data when needed, referring problem accounts for resolution, and identifying incomplete documentation for physician query follow-up.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years of hospital coding experience
- Completion of an AHIMA- or AACP-certified coding program or certificate, or equivalent training program
- Coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-10-CM, and CPT coding guidelines and procedures
Additional requirements by setting
- Outpatient: Pharmacology may be taught on the job during training; pathophysiology not required
- Inpatient: Pharmacology and pathophysiology coursework required
Certifications and clearances
- Eligible for RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Act 34 clearance
