Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes for billing purposes
- Ensure documentation aligns with coding standards and accurately reflects services provided
- Prepare and submit clean claims using EMR/EHR systems to insurance companies and government agencies
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and help resolve collection issues
- Maintain detailed, organized medical records in compliance with privacy laws and industry regulations
- Stay current on changes in coding systems and related regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or incomplete records
Requirements & Qualifications
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding in a healthcare setting, with familiarity using EMR/EHR systems
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding systems including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and assign codes efficiently
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of insurance processes, claim submission procedures, and medical collection practices
- Effective communication skills for working with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients
- Medical coding certification such as CPC or CCS is preferred but not required; DRG experience is highly valued
