Provides training, consultation, review, and feedback to clinicians on medical service documentation and coding to support appropriate reimbursement and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
This is a hybrid role combining remote and in-office work. Candidates must reside in the Northwest Service Region (Oregon or Washington).
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and experience
- Associate of Science degree in Health Information Technology, or equivalent education and experience directly related to the role.
- At least 2 years of progressive, in-depth multispecialty professional services coding experience in diagnostic and procedural coding, or completion of the Documentation and Coding Consultant Apprentice training.
- Must pass the internal coding test with 85% accuracy.
Knowledge and skills
- Ability to conduct coding reviews, quality performance measures, chart review reports, and education/feedback sessions.
- Strong analytical, statistical, and reporting skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and Evaluation and Management coding guidelines.
- Strong understanding of government rules and regulations, fraud and abuse risk areas, and ethical coding standards.
- Ability to deliver virtual training using tools such as Teams and Zoom.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
Certifications
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, or CPC required.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of coding experience with statistical analysis and problem-solving.
- 2+ years of Medicare and multispecialty professional services coding experience.
- 2+ years of project management and training presentation experience.
