This role is for a Physician Educator (Professional Billing Coding and Documentation Educator) supporting Stanford Health Care - University Healthcare Alliance.
The position focuses on training and educating physicians, staff, and other providers on documentation, coding, billing, and compliance standards. The educator reviews the accuracy and completeness of medical documentation, provides feedback to improve coding quality, and helps ensure appropriate reimbursement and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities include supporting new provider onboarding, delivering in-clinic and specialty-specific education, creating coding communications and workshops, and assisting with risk adjustment education related to HCCs and M.E.A.T. criteria. The role also collaborates with compliance and privacy teams to implement coding and privacy policies and supports ongoing education across SMP sites.
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Four years of experience in a healthcare setting with demonstrated knowledge of regulatory billing, coding, and risk adjustment guidelines.
Five years of experience with multi-specialty physician coding within an EMR preferred.
Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding rules.
Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), and either Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
Ability to analyze complex problems, perform research on coding regulations, communicate effectively, work independently, collaborate across teams, and deliver presentations and written reports.
