About the role

IMS is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to join its healthcare consulting practice. This is a fully remote position available within the United States.

The role focuses on accurate coding across multiple care settings and specialties, supporting government systems and meeting strict quality and productivity standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, E/M, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and units based on documentation.
  • Apply systems and standards for multi-specialty coding encounters, including outpatient, emergency room, surgery, inpatient facilities, inpatient professional rounds, and others.
  • Process encounters within required SLA and escalate deficiencies as needed.
  • Review and respond to audits within the required time window and make corrections promptly after final adjudication.
  • Complete training on all government systems, including annual and short-notice training.
  • Meet or exceed weekly productivity and quality targets.
  • Coordinate with team members and follow direction from the Site Manager/Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or higher.
  • Active AHIMA or AAPC coding certification such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, or RHIT.
  • ICD-10 certification required.
  • 2+ years of experience with DoD medical coding, recoding, abstraction, analysis, and assembly of medical record data.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain at least 97% accuracy.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must not have been unfavorably removed from a government position.
  • Current on required training and certification requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to work in a private and secure area while protecting PHI/PII and meeting HIPAA requirements.
  • Experience with DoD systems such as MHS Genesis, EM360, or JLV preferred.
  • Experience across multiple specialties preferred, including Behavioral Health, Cardiology, ER, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, OB/Gyn Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Orthopedic Surgery, Outpatient, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Sleep Medicine, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular Surgery.
