Responsible for providing medical coding training and support for providers and staff based on needs identified by the Corporate Compliance Officer/Health Information Manager.
Works with Revenue Cycle, Operations, and Clinical departments to provide provider and staff training in ICD-10 application and guidelines, evaluation and management selection, Centricity Practice Solution training specific to ICD-10 and procedural coding, and auditing of provider diagnosis, procedural coding, and documentation.
Serves as a resource for questions related to HCPCS, CPT, and ICD-10 coding. Evaluates records for documentation consistency and adequacy during provider coding audits, ensuring the final diagnosis accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered and that records comply with reimbursement and special screening criteria.
Researches codes and guidelines as requested by providers, informatics, billing, and other departments to provide accurate information for billing, reporting, and auditing.
Assists with auditing, reviewing, and reporting findings under the Compliance program. Supports training across departments involving ICD-10-CM and CPT, including Evaluation and Management and Centricity Practice Solution.
Collects and records training data, maintains audit records, prepares audit materials and spreadsheets, communicates progress and findings through reports and meetings, and assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures to support compliance.
Assists with patient complaints, records requests, incident reports, claim corrections, and other coding and HIM-related duties as assigned. Travel as needed.
High school diploma or GED.
Approved coding certificate required, such as CCS or CPC.
Preferred experience in a compliance role.
Knowledge of billing practices, auditing practices, and outpatient clinic systems.
Prior medical records review experience.
Experience with governmental programs related to FQHCs or similar clinical settings.
Centricity practice management system experience preferred.
Data management experience preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Intermediate computer skills.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact courteously and calmly with patients and providers.
Neat and legible handwriting.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with staff and vendors.
