Under general supervision, this role performs coding for diagnoses, procedures, professional services, and supplies in accordance with AMA official coding/reporting guidelines and other third-party payer criteria.
The position supports reimbursement, research, and compliance with state and federal regulations. It also answers coding questions from non-clinical staff, runs reports, monitors charges, and helps develop training for medical staff in basic coding techniques.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 6 months of medical coding experience in each of the following classification systems:
- ICD-10-CM
- CPT-4
- E&M
- HCPCS
- Or equivalent combination of education, certification, and work experience
Desired Education/Certification
- Associate's degree or certification in Health Information Management
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Coding Specialist-Procedural (CCS-P)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
