Responsible for prompt and accurate billing for hospital laboratory and pathology professional billing services. The role reviews system error reports, resolves billing exceptions, audits referral lab invoices, supports clinical and anatomic pathology billing, and helps ensure laboratory billing is current and appropriate for all testing.
Partners with Laboratory, Revenue Integrity, billing, and finance teams to improve billing processes, support compliance and reimbursement efforts, and help maintain policies and procedures related to laboratory billing and coding.
Required
- Associate degree
- Minimum 1 year of direct laboratory billing and coding experience
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and government/commercial payor guidelines
- Knowledge of professional fee billing, reimbursement, medical terminology, and HIPAA privacy laws
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including moderate Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
- Data entry and word processing skills with an aptitude for numbers
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and solve problems
- High ethical standards
Preferred
- Advanced experience in laboratory coding, billing, and invoicing
- Revenue cycle payment collections experience
- Allscripts, SunQuest laboratory information system, and Image Express experience
- Experience with clinical laboratory and reference lab testing
- Minimum 3 years of direct laboratory billing and coding experience
- Professional Coding Certification (CPC)
