1. Indications

The bone strength and fracture-risk assessment using DXR-BMD analysis is indicated for patients who may be at risk for osteoporosis or other conditions that affect bone density. This assessment is particularly relevant for individuals with the following conditions or risk factors:

  • Osteoporosis Patients diagnosed with osteoporosis require regular monitoring of bone density to assess the effectiveness of treatment and the risk of fractures.
  • History of Fractures Individuals with a history of low-impact fractures may need evaluation to determine underlying bone density issues.
  • Age-related Bone Loss Older adults, especially postmenopausal women, are at increased risk for bone density loss and may benefit from regular assessments.
  • Chronic Steroid Use Patients on long-term corticosteroid therapy are at higher risk for bone density reduction and should be monitored.
  • Family History of Osteoporosis A family history of osteoporosis or fractures can indicate a genetic predisposition, warranting assessment.

2. Procedure

The procedure for bone strength and fracture-risk assessment using DXR-BMD analysis involves several key steps:

  • Step 1: Digital X-ray Acquisition An appropriate digital X-ray of the hand or wrist is obtained. This X-ray must be of high quality to ensure accurate analysis of bone mineral density.
