1. Indications

The bone strength and fracture-risk assessment using DXR-BMD analysis is indicated for patients who may be at risk for osteoporosis or other conditions that affect bone density. This assessment is particularly relevant for individuals with the following conditions or risk factors:

  • Osteoporosis Risk Patients with a history of osteoporosis or those who have experienced previous fractures due to low trauma.
  • Age Older adults, especially postmenopausal women, who are at increased risk for bone density loss.
  • Chronic Conditions Individuals with chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic kidney disease, or other metabolic bone disorders.
  • Medications Patients on long-term corticosteroid therapy or other medications known to affect bone density.
  • Family History A family history of osteoporosis or fractures may also warrant this assessment.

2. Procedure

The procedure for conducting a bone strength and fracture-risk assessment using DXR-BMD analysis involves several key steps:

  • Step 1: Digital X-ray Acquisition A single-view digital X-ray of the hand is performed specifically for the purpose of DXR-BMD analysis. This X-ray must be a recent acquisition to ensure accurate assessment of bone density.
  • Step 2: Data Retrieval and Transmission The digital X-ray image is retrieved and transmitted to a specialized server equipped with DXR-BMD analysis software. This step is crucial as it allows for the automated analysis of the bone mineral density.
