2. Procedure

The optokinetic nystagmus test is conducted through a series of specific steps designed to elicit and evaluate eye movements. The procedure begins with the patient being seated comfortably in front of a specialized rotating drum. The drum is equipped with alternating black and white vertical stripes, which are essential for stimulating the visual system. The physician instructs the patient to avoid focusing on any single stripe, encouraging a more natural eye movement response as the drum rotates.
