Codes and abstracts outpatient medical records in accordance with established coding conventions and guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or Coding preferred
- Formal working knowledge equivalent to a two- or four-year degree in HIM or Coding
- AHIMA certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P required upon hire/transfer or within 12 months
- AAPC certifications: CPC or CPC-H required upon hire/transfer or within 12 months
- 1+ years of outpatient facility coding or related experience
- Familiarity with Meditech and 3M Coding and Reimbursement System preferred
- 360 Encompass experience is a plus
- Knowledge of pathophysiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology
- Knowledge of HIM workflow
- Ability to complete and submit physician queries as appropriate
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computer skills necessary to complete job duties
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and produce timely, quality work
