The Medical Biller supports the revenue cycle for a private medical practice by preparing claims, reviewing coding accuracy, resolving denials, and working with insurance companies, clinical staff, patients, and payers.
Key duties include:
- Preparing and submitting clean electronic and paper claims
- Reviewing documentation, coding, modifiers, and charge capture for accuracy
- Monitoring accounts receivable and denial trends
- Investigating, correcting, and resubmitting denied or rejected claims
- Communicating with insurance carriers about claim issues, eligibility, and authorization discrepancies
- Generating patient statements and assisting with billing questions
- Explaining EOBs, patient responsibility, deductible, and coinsurance
- Working with coders to ensure accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Identifying documentation gaps and requesting clarification when needed
- Maintaining compliance with HIPAA, CMS, payer, and other applicable regulations
- Preparing weekly and monthly billing reports
- Supporting administrative and front office staff with billing-related workflows
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree preferred
Experience
- 2+ years of medical billing experience in a private practice or multi-provider outpatient setting
- Experience with EHR and practice management systems
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and specialty payer rules
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding and billing rules
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in specialty practice such as neurology, infusion, pain, or cardiology
- CPC, CPB, or related medical billing/coding certification
- Familiarity with multi-location billing workflows
- Athena EHR experience preferred
