Join Winters Healthcare, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), as a Medical and Dental Billing Specialist supporting accurate, timely, and compliant billing operations.
In this role, you will help maintain the organization’s financial health by preparing and submitting claims, auditing accounts in Epic, managing aging accounts receivable, posting payments, and assisting patients with billing questions and payment plans. You will work closely with providers, the revenue cycle team, insurance carriers, and patients to ensure a compassionate and efficient billing experience.
Location: Winters or Esparto, CA
Work schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week during onboarding, then 32 hours per week under the 4-day work week model with full-time pay.
Minimum Qualifications
- Medical Billing or Coding Certification, or at least 3 years of medical and/or dental billing experience
- At least 6 months of Epic (OCHIN Epic) experience
- Experience with medical billing and collection practices
- Strong knowledge of insurance eligibility, billing regulations, claims management, and payment posting
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong data entry and information processing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently while maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, coworkers, providers, and insurance carriers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a health center or FQHC setting
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal, Medicare, PPO billing, SFS, CPT, and ICD-10 policies
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Current CPR certification preferred
- Knowledge of county programs such as Family PACT, CHDP, and Healthy Families
Compensation
- Starting hourly wage: $23.25 - $27.50/hour
- After onboarding: $29.05 - $34.39/hour
- Certified coder rate: $25.50 - $31.89/hour for 8 weeks, then $31.89 - $39.86/hour under the 4-day work week model
