Accurately codes emergency and outpatient diagnostic records for the classification of diseases, injuries, procedures, and operations using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems for BHSF facilities. Ensures coding compliance with regulatory agencies including CMS and OIG. Works collaboratively to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals. Abstracts prescribed data elements from medical records.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma, certificate, GED, training, or equivalent experience
Certifications
- AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Additional Qualifications
- Completion of an AHIMA-accredited Certified Coding Specialist program and coding certificate required
- If not CCS or RHIT certified at hire, must obtain within 2 years
- Knowledge of encoder systems, outpatient prospective payment system, and APCs
- Knowledge of National and Local Coverage Determinations (NCD/LCD) policies
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Strong communication skills with coworkers, management, and physicians
- Minimum required experience: 1 year
