HCC Coding Specialist

This role is part of the Risk Adjustment Coding team at Virtix Health. The HCC Coding Specialist will review medical records and abstract ICD-10 codes that map to HCCs, RxHCCs, and ESRD models while following Medicare guidelines, ICD-10-CM guidelines, and client-specific requirements.

This is a remote, work-from-home position available within the U.S. Part-time hours are 20-29 hours per week, with work scheduled in 4-hour blocks Monday through Friday between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM EST. Flexible hours may be available after quality and productivity goals are met.

Equipment is provided, including encoder software with access to AHA Coding Clinic.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months of recent retrospective HCC coding experience, plus 1 additional year of coding experience • Valid AAPC or AHIMA coding credential required • Acceptable credentials: CPC, CRC, COC, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P • Apprenticeship designations are not accepted • Must maintain a quality score of 95% or higher • Must meet ongoing productivity expectations based on project requirements • Ability to review, analyze, and code medical records accurately • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines and Risk Adjustment Data Abstraction Rules • Experience with EMRs, billing systems, abstraction platforms, and similar tools • Reliable phone and internet connection • Must be able to work independently from home • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to analyze information, make decisions, coordinate tasks, and meet deadlines • Must be available for required training and coaching windows
