The Medical Billing Payment Processor is responsible for accurately collecting, processing, and reconciling patient payments prior to and at the time of service. This front-line financial role supports a smooth patient payment experience while maintaining healthcare financial compliance standards.
- Collect and process patient payments before medical services are rendered
- Handle credit card, debit card, check, and electronic payment transactions
- Review patient accounts and insurance eligibility to estimate financial responsibility
- Post payments, reconcile daily batches, and prepare end-of-day financial reports
- Resolve payment discrepancies, overpayments, and refund requests
- Communicate payment information clearly and professionally with patients
- Maintain HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and healthcare billing compliance
This is an in-office position in Playa Vista, CA.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field preferred
- 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, healthcare collections, or a related financial role
- Working knowledge of medical billing processes, insurance terminology, and healthcare revenue cycle
- Proficiency with practice management software such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar systems
- Experience processing multiple payment types, including credit/debit cards, checks, and electronic payments
- Familiarity with CPT codes, ICD-10 coding basics, and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents
- Strong attention to detail, math skills, and analytical ability
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) preferred
