Responsible for providing administrative support to the department while ensuring diagnostic and procedure codes are assigned accurately to outpatient encounters based on documentation in the electronic medical record and in compliance with established rules and regulatory guidelines.
Serves as a liaison between management, staff, and physicians for routine matters, resolving questions and issues. Leads workflow support activities such as work scheduling, work assignments, quality assurance audits, mentoring, training, feedback delivery, data collection and reporting, and performance improvement activities.
Associate’s degree or higher in a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management accredited program, or an additional two years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
Five years of relevant outpatient coding experience.
Required certification: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.
Knowledge of coding classification systems, DRG and APC systems, official coding guidelines, coding compliance, electronic medical records, imaging systems, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and electronic encoder applications.
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, training, mentoring, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in English and adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
