Facilitates improvement in the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation to support accurate coding assignment, severity of illness, and risk of mortality through collaboration with providers and multidisciplinary team members.
Responsibilities include concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient records, identification of documentation opportunities, provider query support, education on documentation guidelines, compliance with CMS and Medicare documentation standards, and collaboration with coding and quality teams to improve hospital and provider outcomes.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of one of the following:
- Inpatient acute care coding or CDI experience
- Clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in an inpatient acute care setting
- Clinical experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an inpatient acute care setting
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in risk-adjusted coding or evaluation and management
- Two years of CDI experience
Additional skills:
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain accuracy under interruptions
- Proficiency with office software
