CPT 99231 describes a subsequent hospital inpatient or observation care service that requires a medically appropriate history and/or examination and a straightforward or low level of medical decision-making. It must be met or exceeded by 25 minutes of total time on the encounter date.
CPT Code 99232
CPT 99232 describes a subsequent hospital inpatient or observation care, per day, for the evaluation and management of a patient, which requires a medically appropriate history and/or examination and a moderate level of medical decision-making, with a total time on the date of the encounter of at least 35 minutes.
CPT Code 99233
CPT 99233 describes a subsequent hospital inpatient or observation care per day that requires a medically appropriate history and/or examination and a high level of medical decision-making, with a total time of 50 minutes or more on the encounter date.
