Medical Data Abstractor

North Shore Medical Center

Functions as a key member of the health care team responsible for ensuring efficient, accurate data collection for retrospective review and concurrent review cases. Supports timely and appropriate medical case review for Commitment to Quality (CTQ/Core Measures) and state and regulatory agency requirements to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting information for thorough record review, including appropriateness and timeliness of care, physician documentation, and documentation from all disciplines involved
  • Performing orthopedic case reviews and referring outliers to Medical Director and DCQI
  • Communicating review findings to DCQI for appropriate referrals
  • Collaborating with the health care team regarding length of stay and admission criteria
  • Correlating data outcomes on Core Measures outlier cases
  • Identifying deviations from hospital policies and notifying DCQI
  • Collecting data and reporting to the appropriate committee
  • Monitoring medical records concurrently and retrospectively
  • Analyzing variance patterns from practice guidelines or standards and implementing strategies to resolve them
  • Participating in the development and revision of practice guidelines and standards
  • Assisting in coordination and compliance with regulatory agency standards
  • Performing outpatient and Core Measures case reviews monthly
  • Performing discretionary surgical procedure reviews according to the quarterly calendar
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Foreign Medical Graduate with completion of a medical degree from an accredited foreign medical school, or
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Florida
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current RN license in the State of Florida
  • Ability to perform medical record review, data collection, and compliance-focused analysis
  • Experience working with quality improvement, case review, or core measures preferred
