Responsible for EMPI integrity and chart correction, insurance audit preparation, release of information for regulatory requestors, and timely, accurate SPARCS submission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing medical records in the electronic record system for release to regulatory and other requestors
- Preparing medical records for insurance audits requiring data analysis and review prior to submission
- Working with the HIM supervisor on data entry and processing projects as needed
- Revising admit and discharge dates when necessary
- Working with the EMPI team on chart correction
- Processing cancelled cases and addressing room and bed charges
- Coordinating Master Patient Index corrections, including merges
- Preparing medical records for performance improvement studies and service committees while meeting established deadlines
- Demonstrating knowledge of the SPARCS reporting system and ensuring timely submission and correction of cases
- Supporting a culture of safety and quality
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications and requirements include:
- Associate degree required; bachelor's degree strongly preferred
- 2 or more years of similar previous hospital experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of electronic health record systems
- Experience working with Excel
- Previous SPARCS experience preferred
- Ability to lift 20 pounds and sit for long periods of time
- Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal, state, local, and accrediting standards
