Coding Specialist

Naples Comprehensive Health - NCH

Responsible for all aspects of medical coding for physician services, including office, outpatient, hospital inpatient and outpatient, and ancillary services. The role reviews medical records to code visits and procedures accurately, supports charge review and claim edit workflows, educates physicians and healthcare staff on correct coding, and helps identify coding-related issues that affect reimbursement and claims processing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review medical records to code visits and procedures with the highest specificity and accuracy.
  • Correct and refile charges based on recon report review.
  • Educate physicians and healthcare staff on coding rules, documentation, and code selection.
  • Review EOBs and billing correspondence for denials, trends, and payment errors.
  • Work coding charge review, claim edits, payer rejection, and follow-up queues.
  • Maintain productivity and coding accuracy goals.
  • Support training of onboarding coding specialists.
  • Assist denial and appeal teams with coding-related appeal language.
  • Stay current on CPT, ICD-10, and reimbursement updates.
  • Research patient account and billing/coding issues as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • 1 year of professional coding experience required
  • 2 years of medical billing experience preferred

Certifications and Knowledge

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC required
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Basic accounting knowledge and skills
  • Epic software experience preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment
  • Reliable high-speed internet and phone access required
  • Familiarity with WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and similar virtual meeting tools
