Accurately codes emergency and outpatient diagnostic records for the classification of diseases, injuries, procedures, and operations using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems for BHSF facilities.
Ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations according to regulatory agencies, including CMS and OIG.
Works as part of a team to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals.
Abstracts prescribed data elements from medical records.
Estimated pay range: $23.91 - $31.08 per hour, depending on experience.
High school diploma, certificate, GED, training, or equivalent experience.
AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification.
AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
Completion of an AHIMA-accredited certified coding specialist program and coding certificate.
If not CCS or RHIT certified upon hire, certification must be obtained within 2 years.
Knowledge of encoder systems, outpatient prospective payment system, and APCs.
Knowledge of National Local Coverage Determinations (NCD and LCD) policies.
Competency in Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, management staff, and physicians.
