Coding Specialist - CPC Required

This is a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM remote position for Holy Cross Medical Group. The role performs charge entry, charge approvals, and quality charge reviews, including appending modifiers and checking clinical documentation. The position works closely with Revenue Integrity staff and providers to improve documentation supporting coding.

The specialist is responsible for coding and validating charges for complex service lines, with advanced proficiency in surgical or specialty coding. Core duties include reviewing charts, validating and extracting charges, ensuring charges are assigned to the correct patient, encounter, and date of service, and confirming required modifiers are applied. The role also supports denial coordination, appeals, root cause analysis, documentation improvement, and communication with clinical and interdepartmental teams to support revenue integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant coding and charge control experience in a hospital and/or physician practice environment
  • Experience in revenue cycle, billing, coding, and/or patient financial services
  • CPC license required
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, data entry, supply chain processes, and hospital/medical group operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical coding including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9/10, revenue codes, and modifiers
  • Experience with charging processes, audits, and clinical billing
  • Strong understanding of medical claim formats
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation improvement processes strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of APC, OPPS, OCE/CCI edits, and DNFB
  • Ability to perform charge capture processes and investigate charge errors
  • Epic experience desired
  • Neurosurgery experience highly preferred
  • CardioThoracic and Vascular surgery experience and Neurointerventional experience preferred
