Responsible for accurately assigning and sequencing ICD diagnostic and procedural codes and CPT/HCPCS codes for inpatient and outpatient records.
Codes outpatient, emergency department, and outpatient diagnostic records while ensuring compliance with approved coding guidelines and conventions.
Abstracts medical data, verifies diagnostic and demographic information, and supports accurate billing interface and claims submission.
Works collaboratively with medical staff and patient accounts to obtain documentation, maintain coding integrity, and support quality coding outcomes.
Completion of an approved coding program with AHIMA or AAPC approval status.
3+ years of recent coding experience in an acute hospital setting.
Required certification: CCS, CIC, COC, RHIA, RHIT, or another AHIMA/AAPC coding certification.
Coding ability must be demonstrated through a skills assessment.
Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT/HCPCS, APC assignment, and hospital coding guidelines.
