Description Of Well Woman Exam

HMSA plans require every woman to have at least one gynecological exam per calendar year. This can include a pelvic exam, a clinical breast exam, taking a sample and / or a Pap smear when screening is carried out. A well-woman exam is billed when a patient sees a doctor for a routine annual gynaecological exam. If a patient has gynaecological symptoms (e.g. Dysmenorrhea), the doctor will evaluate and administer the E & M visit, which will be billed directly.

Do not count on laboratory services associated with a Pap smear unless you have a CLIA-approved lab in your office that provides these services. If the sample is sent to an external laboratory, this laboratory will be accounted for under HMSA.
