The CPT manual defines a ‘new patient‘ as “one who has not received any professional services from the physician, or another physician of the same specialty who belongs to the same group practice, within the past three years.” In simple words, a new patient is someone that hasn’t visited the physician before or does not have a medical record with the physician. The CPT codes below include procedures for new patients only and also procedures for established and new patients.
